Insurance

AYA, through Aircraft and Marine Assurance Agency, Inc., has a group insurance policy which covers both aircraft hull and liability risks. We have established an excellent safety record over the years, which results in a very competitive premium. To obtain a quote, contact the agent directly (see below), indicating that you are considering joining AYA. A quick estimate may be obtained by telephone. Some limitations and minimum requirements do apply.

Pilot Familiarization Program

Along with our group insurance plan, we also offer a Pilot Familiarization Program (PFP). This consists of experienced CFIs being available to provide new owners of these aircraft with the opportunity to become aware of their unique handling characteristics. We strongly recommend this program, because experience has demonstrated that prior flight time in other makes and models is generally insufficient for most pilots transitioning to this make of aircraft.

Technical Information

Additionally, we have acquired a wealth of technical information concerning parts availability, safety, performance, maintenance, modifications, STCs, tips, and various operating techniques not available from any other source. In the Maintenance Hangar we have copies of every service letter, service bulletin, and airworthiness directive ever issued for our aircraft. Many of our "in the business" members give generously of their time and knowledge to others in AYA. The bottom line is: We have come to know these aircraft better than anyone else!

Free CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING

To place an ad you need to be a member. AYA members benefit from the opportunity to advertise their aviation related items free of charge in the bi-monthly Star and on this website. The price of membership is less than the cost of placing an ad in most aviation publications or websites, you even get to post a color photo in the website ad. Plus, you get all the other AYA benefits!

If you would like to place a business ad in the AYA Star, please contact the Editor for details.

Regions

AYA has sixteen regions; eleven in the U.S., three in Canada, one in western Europe, and one in Australia and New Zealand. There are over 30 Regional Directors and Area Coordinators serving members within these regions. Each region holds several events per year, and the numerous local area gatherings allow members to share common interests and information on topics such as maintenance and parts availability, mods, flying tips, and so on. Some combined regional events and the Annual Convention include seminars and guest speakers, and are heavily attended.

Annual Convention

Our Annual Convention is held each summer. This event is scheduled in a different location in North America each year, but every other year is within easy commuting distance of EAA Oshkosh, to allow members and guests to attend both conventions. Our convention runs for three to four days, and includes a wide array of flying activities, contests, awards, seminars, meetings, banquets, and informal discussions. A convention fee, paid by each attending member, covers several meals, airport transportation, award costs, and various other direct costs related to the event. Details are published in the newsletter and on the web site each spring.

The American Star Newsletter

The American Star  is the official newsletter of AYA. It is sent to all members six times each year via second class mail. International members receive the Star via first class air mail. We are quite proud of our publication. It is also available online.  We will be happy to send you a complimentary copy, so that you can see that it is a timely source of information on the many maintenance and operational tips that we continually develop as well as the social aspect of AYA.
Submissions for the Star can be sent directly to editor@aya.org.

Maintenance and Operation Compendium

AYA also offers to members the Maintenance and Operation Reference Manual, a compendium of all of the technical articles from two decades of The American Star. The compendium is an inexpensive and convenient way to get the full body of published AYA technical information. Individual back issues of the Star also are available.

AYA does accept MasterCard and Visa. Please note that you can save substantially on dues by joining for multiple years. All renewals, whether for one or more years, are due on January 1. Half-year memberships are available for those joining after July 1 each year, or you may join for the full year and receive all of the year's back issues of the Star.

Note that the Litter Box, the classified ads section of the Star, is the only medium through which aircraft are sold. AYA itself does not broker aircraft, nor do we monitor the sale or purchase of aircraft among our members.
